Creating a Position




In SmartOffice, investment positions are created manually by the user

or through electronic downloads from third-party providers.




Manual Method





-

Do one of the following:





-

[Perform

a position search](/help/pro/smartinvestments/-/searching/for/investment/positions) to display the Global Investment Position

List.



-

Open the Investment

Positions tab of a contact or other record. SmartOffice

record types that have this tab include contacts, businesses,

households, advisors, agencies, investment accounts and investment

securities.





-

Select Menu > New 'Investment Positions' Record.



-

When the Select Security Type dialog box opens, select a security

type.








Note: The Bank Account, Notes

Receivable, Personal Property and Real Estate options are available

only when the position is created from the Global Investment Position

List or the contact/household Investment Positions tab.




Selecting one of these types creates a personal holding, which

is a special type of investment position in SmartOffice. These

positions are not linked to [investment

accounts](/help/pro/smartinvestments/-/viewing/and/editing/investment/accounts) and do not appear in [position

searches](/help/pro/smartinvestments/-/searching/for/investment/positions). They are visible only on the contact/household Investment

Positions tab.

If the Search Contacts and Businesses dialog box opens, [search

for and select the contact or business](/help/pro/contacts/and/businesses/-/searching/for/contacts/and/businesses) that the position will

belong to.

If the Search Accounts dialog box opens, [search

for and select the investment account](/help/pro/smartinvestments/-/searching/for/investment/accounts) to which the position will

be added.

When the [Position

Detail content link](/help/pro/smartinvestments/-/position/detail/content/link) opens, complete the fields. For help with

these fields, see [Viewing

and Editing Investment Positions](/help/pro/smartinvestments/-/viewing/and/editing/investment/positions).

Select Menu > Save.






Electronic Download Method




Users who subscribe to data providers such as DST, Albridge and Pershing

can download account positions directly from those providers.

Deleting a Position





-

Open an investment position record, or tag one or more positions

in the [Investment

Position List](/help/pro/smartinvestments/-/searching/for/investment/positions).





Note: Only users with the Mass

Deletion [user

right](/help/pro/user/accounts/user/rights/content/link) can delete multiple records at once.





-

Select Menu > Delete 'Investment Positions' record.



-

When the confirmation message displays, click the Yes

button.







Note: An investment position is automatically

deleted when its associated contact record is deleted. See [Creating
