Overview

Keeping security prices up to date is important for tasks such [investment

validation](/help/pro/smartinvestments/-/investment/validation), assessing [investment

performance](/help/pro/smartinvestments/-/performance/calculations) and calculating [asset

allocation](/help/pro/smartinvestments/-/asset/allocation).

Note: Organizations that

receive[ investment

data downloads](/help/pro/data/aggregation/services/-/introduction) in SmartOffice typically receive security price updates

automatically. Users in these organizations generally do not need to update

security prices using the methods described in this topic.

Prices can be downloaded electronically using the Internet Quote Service

utility, or they can be entered manually.

After updating security prices, run [investment

validation](/help/pro/smartinvestments/-/investment/validation) to ensure that client accounts and positions are up to

date.

Missing

Prices Utility

In certain cases, SmartOffice automatically notifies the user when a

security's prices require updating. The Missing Prices utility displays

when a security's price history is missing entries that are necessary

for accurate [investment

reports](/help/pro/smartinvestments/-/investment/reports) or [performance

calculations](/help/pro/smartinvestments/-/performance/calculations).

The utility can also be run manually at any time:

-

From the [Investment

Security List](/help/pro/smartinvestments/-/searching/for/investment/securities), tag one or more securities to update.

-

Select Menu > Missing Price Search.

-

Select the date range for the search, and then click the OK button to open the Prices Missing from

Price History dialog box.

-

Do one of the following:

-

Manually enter the missing prices and then click the OK button.

-

Select Menu >

Advanced Options >

Internet Quote Service

to download the missing prices using the [Internet

Quote Service](/help/pro/smartinvestments/-/updating/security/prices). Then click the OK

button.

The utility is especially useful for updating variable annuity subaccounts,

whose prices must be entered manually because they are not available through

the Internet Quote Service.

Internet

Quote Service

The Internet Quote Service utility enables the user to download current

and historical prices for securities.

Note: The Internet Quote

Service cannot be used to update securities created in the home office,

fixed-price securities or securities of a type that is not supported by

the selected price data provider. Also, security types that do not have

real symbols—Cash

and Equivalents, Direct Participation Programs, Variable Annuities, Fixed

Annuities and non-corporate Bonds—are

not processed. Such securities must be updated manually.

Price Data Providers

-

FT Interactive Data:

This is a pay-per-use service that requires a subscription with Interactive

Data. Subscribers can download prices for global equities, options,

corporate bonds, government securities, U.S. and Canadian agency securities,

global commodity/futures contracts, U.S. municipal bonds, U.S. pass-through

securities (GNMA, FNMA, FHLMC), collateralized mortgage obligations

(CMOs) and asset-backed securities. The service offers the latest,

daily and month-end prices. When using FT Interactive Data, the Internet

Quote Service matches securities based on CUSIP numbers. If the CUSIP

number is entered incorrectly on the security's [Detail

content link](/help/pro/smartinvestments/-/security/detail/content/link), incorrect prices (or no prices at all) will be downloaded.

Note: FT Interactive

Data does not provide prices for these security types: direct participation

programs, variable annuities, cash, fixed annuities.
