Overview
In SmartInvestments, liabilities (e.g., loans) are either unsecured or secured by an investment account or position. An example of the latter is a mortgage attached to a real estate position. Note: To work with liabilities, the user must have the Show Liability Screens license enabled in User
Accounts - User Rights. For information about how SmartOffice handles liabilities when investment validation is performed, see Investment Validation.
Searching for Liabilities
Use any of these methods to display existing liabilities.
From the Side Menu
This method can be used to display all liabilities in the system. - From the side menu, select Investments > Liabilities to open the Search Liabilities dialog box.
- Enter any appropriate search criteria, or leave all fields blank to display all liabilities.
- Click the Search button to display the Global Liability List.
From a Contact, Business or Household
This method displays the liabilities associated only with specific contacts, businesses or households. -
Conduct a contact, business or household search.
- In the list of search results, select one or more records.
- Click the Liabilities tab to display the Liability List for the selected records.
From an Investment Account or Position
- Conduct an investment account or investment position search.
- In the list of search results, select one or more records.
- Click the Account Liabilities or Position Liabilities content link to display the Liability List for the selected records.
Creating Liabilities
From the Side Menu
- From the side menu, select Investments > Liabilities to open the Search Liabilities dialog box.
- Click the Search button to display the Global Liability List.
- Select Menu > New 'Liability' record to open the Search Contacts dialog box.
- When prompted, search for the appropriate contact. In the list of search results, select the contact to open the liability Detail content link.
- Complete the appropriate fields. Note the following:
- The Loan Amount field is required.
- The Term (Months) field accepts
values up to 1,200 (i.e., 100 years).
- Select Menu > Save.
From a Contact, Business or Household
- Conduct a contact, business or household search.
- In the list of search results, select a record.
- Click the Liabilities tab to display the Liability List for the selected record.
- Select Menu > New 'Liability' record to open the liability Detail content link.
- Complete the appropriate fields. Note the following:
- The Loan Amount field is required.
- The Term (Months) field accepts values up to 1,200 (i.e., 100 years).
- Select Menu > Save.
From an Investment Account or Position
- Conduct an investment account or investment position search.
- In the list of search results, select one or more records.
- Click the Account Liabilities or Position Liabilities content link to display the Liability List for the selected records.
- Click the Options button and select New 'Liability' record to open the New Liability dialog box. The account or position name is automatically filled in.
- Complete the appropriate fields. Note the following:
- The Loan Amount field is required.
- The Term (Months) field accepts values up to 1,200 (i.e., 100 years).
- Click the OK button.
Deleting Liabilities
From any list of liabilities, tag a liability and select Menu > Delete 'Liability' record or click the Options button and select Delete 'Liability' record.
