Overview
While viewing/editing an opportunity, the user can access this content link to track basic details about the opportunity, including its current stage, actions and owner. The opportunity's stage can be updated from this content link.
You can customize this content link to display different content if you have the appropriate user rights (see Page Layout Customization). This topic describes the contents of the SmartOffice default layout.
Opportunity Detail Section
- Process: The sales process that the opportunity is based on is automatically displayed here.
- Contact Name: The contact name is automatically displayed. The contact name can be changed for existing opportunities. Either contact or business records can be selected by clicking the Contact Name hyperlink to search for a contact or business.
- Opportunity Owner: To change the opportunity owner, click the adjacent Change Opportunity Owner button. The list of users that displays when the button is clicked includes producer/manager users only. In an office with office security enabled, the opportunity owner can be changed only by a user with the Opportunity Setup Administrator user right and the Reporting on Multiple Users' Data user right, or by a Super User.

Campaign Name: The marketing campaign that the opportunity is associated with. To search for and select a campaign, click the Campaign Name hyperlink.
- Opportunity Name: Enter an opportunity name, or leave the field blank to automatically insert the campaign or contact name.
- Include in Forecast: Select this option to include the opportunity information in reports.
- Status: The status is defined by the opportunity's current stage, as defined in Opportunity Setup.
- Potential Revenue: The potential revenue is the estimated amount of business that is expected from the opportunity.
- Est. Close: The expected closing date for the opportunity.
- Close Probability (%): The probability of the sale being made.
- Est. Revenue: The amount that is expected after multiplying the potential revenue and the closing probability.
- Visible to Advisors: This option is not currently functional. It was added for a future SmartOffice enhancement.
- Current Stage: This drop-down list displays the current stage and enables the user to change the stage. For more information about advancing an opportunity, see Advancing a Contact through the Sales Process.
- Current Stage Date: The current stage date displays the date when the stage was changed.
- Previous Stage: This field displays the stage before the current stage.
- Previous Stage Date: This field displays the previous stage’s date.
- Last Activity Outcome/Date: The name and date of the most recent activity outcome linked to the opportunity.
- Actual Sales Amount/Sales Date: The amount and date of the sale. These fields display only if the opportunity's status is Sale Made.
- Win Reason: The reason that the sale was successful. Several predefined system choices are available (Price, Product, Service). Users with the appropriate user rights can customize the drop-down list to add more choices.
- Reason for Loss: This field displays only when the opportunity's status is Sale Lost. Several predefined system choices are available (Competition, Not needed any more, Too expensive). Users with the appropriate user rights can customize the drop-down list to add more choices.
Qualification & Scoring Section
The fields in this section help the user assess the quality of an opportunity as well as its priority. -
Qualification: The sales potential that the opportunity represents.
- Interest: The level of interest the contact has expressed.
- Priority: SmartOffice automatically calculates this field based on the values in the Qualification and Interest fields. The values range from A
(high) to E (low). However, the user can change the priority to any value.
Custom Fields Section
Custom fields (Alphanum and Date) are provided for a user to enter additional information if required. Click the Customize Field Label button to change the labels.
Remarks Section
Remarks is a free-form field for storing miscellaneous information about the opportunity. The maximum number of characters allowed is 2,048.
Stage Actions for Current/Previous Section
This section displays all of the actions that are associated with the opportunity’s current and previous stages. From this section, the user can: -
Select a particular stage from the Stages drop-down list to view the actions associated with that stage (for current and previous stages only).
Tip: From the Options menu, select Show All Completed Actions or Show All Actions to specify which actions are displayed. -
Create, delete and manage stage actions.
The opportunity's stage cannot be changed using the Stages drop-down list in this section. For more information about changing the stage, see Advancing a Contact through the Sales Process. - Activity Start Date
- Activity Subject
- Completed Date
