Contacts and Businesses - Record Conversion

Overview
The Record Conversion feature of SmartOffice enables the user to convert contact, business, advisor and agency records from one type to another. For example, a contact record can be converted to a business, advisor or agency record.
Note: For users of the SmartRecruiting module, contacts can also be converted to candidates and vice versa. This is different from standard Record Conversion. For more information about candidate conversion, see SmartRecruiting - Additional Features.
Because record conversion cannot be undone, it is important to proceed with caution. Depending on the type of conversion, certain fields in the record being converted may be lost. For example, if a contact is converted to a business, the contact's birth date information is lost, because business records do not contain a Birth Date field.
Converting a Record
- Search for a contact, business, advisor or agency.
- Open the record or select it from the list of results.
- Select Menu > Advanced Options > Convert to open the Conversion Options dialog box.
- Select a record subsystem type to convert to.
- (Optional) Select the Convert custom field data option to include data from the record's Custom content link in the conversion process. Note that there are limits to the types of custom field data that can be converted. Customized field names, lookup fields and lookup field choices are not converted.
- Click the OK button.
- If a confirmation message displays, click the Yes button.
