Integrations - Veo
In this topic:
Using the Integration Single Sign-On
Overview
Note: Following completion of the TD Ameritrade-Charles Schwab merger in 2023, Schwab began migrating Veo users to Schwab Advisor Center. For that reason, this integration is under review and may no longer function as described below.
This integration establishes single sign-on (SSO) access from Veo®, the TD Ameritrade Institutional account management and trading platform, to SmartOffice and vice versa. With this time-saving integration, a user who is already signed in to one system can gain immediate access to the other system without having to sign in.
In addition, the integration makes it possible to receive Veo alerts about new accounts, confirmations, transfers, margin calls and other events directly in SmartOffice.
The Veo integration is available at no additional cost to any SmartOffice user who also uses Veo.
Disclaimer: TD Ameritrade and Zinnia Distributor Solutions LLC are separate, unaffiliated companies and are not responsible for each other’s policies and services. Access to the Veo platform’s open access capabilities is provided as a service to independent advisors using the brokerage, execution and custody services of TD Ameritrade. Veo open access is an indication of potential programming compatibility. It does not imply any TD Ameritrade, Inc. recommendation of, endorsement of, warranty of, or fitness for use of any third party’s products or services. TD Ameritrade is not responsible for information, opinions or services provided by a third party. Since TD Ameritrade must ensure that all vendors meet security requirements, integration with new vendors is not immediate and cannot be guaranteed. Brokerage services provided exclusively by TD Ameritrade, Inc., member FINRA/SIPC.
Requirements
To use the Veo integration, a SmartOffice user must have:
- The TD Ameritrade Institutional's Veo Open Access
- Single sign-on and alert activation from TD Ameritrade Institutional: Contact TD Ameritrade Institutional at techservices@tdameritrade.com or (800) 400-6288, option 3. Ask for "inbound and outbound single sign-on for SmartOffice." TD Ameritrade Institutional will request a completed Release of Information authorization form.
Setup
Follow the instructions in this section to ensure that office, user and browser settings are configured correctly for the integration.
For additional assistance with these setup steps, contact SmartOffice Technical Support.
Office Settings
A SmartOffice user with administrator rights must verify that the office is configured properly.
- In SmartOffice, access the office Detail content link.
- From the Authentication Mode drop-down list, select one of these options: Both: This is the recommended option. With this setting, users can sign in to SmartOffice either through Veo or directly from the SmartOffice sign-in page.
- Single Sign-On: With this setting, users can sign in to SmartOffice through Veo only. Direct sign-in from the SmartOffice sign-in page is not allowed.
User Settings
After verifying office settings, the administrator must configure the integration for each SmartOffice user.
- In SmartOffice, access the User Rights content link for the user's account (Setup > User Accounts). For more information about user account settings, refer to the Office Settings and Administration Guide.
- In the Licenses column, select Veo SSO Setup.
- Select Menu > Save.
- Repeat these steps for each additional user.
Once the integration is enabled for a user account, the user must sign in to SmartOffice and complete the following steps:
- In the side menu, select Integrations > Veo Alert to open the Setup Veo Integration dialog box.
- Enter a valid Veo user ID and password in the appropriate fields, and then click the Add button. The Veo user ID should appear in the Existing Veo Users list.
- Click the Close button.
To receive alerts, a user must also have alerts configured properly in Veo under Preferences > User Preferences > Alerts & Subscriptions.
Using the Integration
Single Sign-On
Navigating from Veo to SmartOffice
- Sign in to Veo.
- On the top menu, select Account Tools > Vendor Applications > EbixCRM-SmartOffice.
- If the SmartOffice sign-in page displays, sign in to SmartOffice normally. This step is necessary only the first time the integration is used. Subsequently, when the user accesses SmartOffice from within Veo, the user is automatically signed in to SmartOffice.
Navigating from SmartOffice to Veo
Note: Navigation from SmartOffice to Veo is possible only after the user has navigated from Veo to SmartOffice at least once to establish the single sign-on relationship.
When signed in to SmartOffice, the user can navigate directly to the Veo home page or to a specific Veo client account page. To do so, select Menu > Integrations > Veo SSO in SmartOffice.
The destination in Veo depends on the user’s location in SmartOffice. The following table summarizes these destinations.
| User's Location in SmartOffice | Veo Destination |
|---|---|
| Contact List | Veo home page |
| Contact Personal content link | Veo home page |
| Investment Account List (with an account selected) | Client Investment Account page1 |
| Investment Account Detail content link | Client Investment Account page1 |
1 Investment accounts are matched based on account number. If no matching account number is found, the user is taken to the Veo home page.
Veo Alerts
Once user setup is completed, SmartOffice automatically downloads Veo alerts every night and posts them to the SmartPad as account and position notes.
Supported Alert Types
The following table lists types of Veo alerts currently supported.
| Alert Type | SmartPad Location |
|---|---|
| New Accounts | Account Notes |
| Transfers | Account Notes |
| Margin Calls | Account Notes |
| Expiring GTD Orders | Position Notes |
| Check Received Money In | Position Notes |
| Securities Transferred | Position Notes |
Viewing Veo Alerts in SmartOffice
The recommended method for viewing Veo alerts in SmartOffice is to create a tab on the SmartOffice home page and add two portlets containing the appropriate Dynamic Reports.
Note: These instructions assume that the user is familiar with creating and configuring home page tabs and Dynamic Reports.
- Create a home page tab and add two Dynamic Reports, noting the following:
- Select the Investment Account Notes category for one report and the Position Notes category for the other (both categories belong to the Notes report family).
- Configure the filter in each report to display records for which the Keywords column contains Veo Alert.
- Configure the layout of each report to include the following columns:
- Memo Date [Notes]
- Contact Name [Contact]
- Type [Notes]
- Account # [Investment Accounts]
- Account Name [Investment Accounts]
- Keywords [Notes]
- Notes [Notes]
Troubleshooting
This section describes issues that users may encounter with the Veo integration, along with possible solutions.
Issue: The SmartOffice option is not available under the Account Tools menu in Veo.
This means that single sign-on access to SmartOffice from Veo has not been activated. Contact TD Ameritrade Institutional and request single sign-on activation for SmartOffice. For contact information, see Requirements.
Issue: An Error Code 5006 displays when the user tries to access SmartOffice from Veo.
This error indicates that the Veo license has not been enabled for the office, the user or both in SmartOffice. Please review the instructions in Setup.
